I've been at Mizzou since 2007. My lab studies infants' developing understanding of the physical world and how their knowledge changes over time. I am especially interested in understanding infants' early "number sense" and how it may provide the foundation for later-developing, uniquely human abilities such as the acquisition of verbal counting.
Yanfei is a fifth-year graduate student at Mizzou. She earned her bachelors degree in psychology from Sun Yat-Sen University in China and has experience doing research in developmental psychology and psycholinguistics. Yanfei earned her Masters degree studying how adults and young children process numerical information in visual displays., and is currently working on her dissertation!
Chenyuan is third-year graduate student who earned her bachelors degree from Beijing Normal University in China. Chenyuan is interested in the development of numerical cognition, and especially how infants spontaneously map various perceptual dimensions onto each other. She is currently working on a project investigating infants' ability to compare numbers of objects and choose the larger set.

Yi's dissertation showed that by 6 months of age, infants can extract ratio information from auditory sequences and detect which of two visual displays has a matching ratio. After working as a postdoc with Dr. Dan Hyde at Univ. of Illinois U-C, Yi moved to China where he directs a developmental psychology lab and works as a university professor!
Current position: Associate Professor of Psychology at Sun Yat Sen University in Guangzhou, China.
Jin's dissertation explored the relationship between preschool quantitative abilities (continuous and discrete quantity discrimination) and math achievement at school entry. Jin not only is an expert in numerical cognition, but also quantitative analysis and computer programming. Together, these skills landed him a position as a data analyst with Nike!
Current position: Data scientist for Nike, Inc.
